Arizona State will wear Pat Tillman throwback uniforms for its Thursday night "Salute to Service" game against Oregon. The burgandy jerseys, gold helmets with the old Sparky logo and gold pants pay homage to the Sun Devils' look in the mid-to-late 1990s, when Tillman starred as a linebacker.
The school got special permission from the NCAA to have each player's nameplate read "Tillman," and also announced last week its new cleats would honor Tillman.

Tillman, while playing for the Arizona Cardinals in 2002, enlisted in the United States Army following the Sept. 11 attacks. He died from friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004.
Arizona State still enters Sun Devil Stadium through the "Tillman Tunnel" and wears a patch on its uniforms to honor Tillman.
