AP Top 25: Florida State moves to No. 1 after Alabama loss image

Florida State rises to No. 1 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 college football rankings, following Alabama's first loss of the season. And now we have something real to argue about ahead of tonight's release of the BCS rankings.

No. 3 Auburn (11-1) received two first-place votes after its thrilling 34-28 victory against Alabama (11-1) on Saturday.

The Tigers trail No. 2 Ohio State (12-0) by 31 votes. That's a gap that could not only be closed a bit with a win against No. 5 Missouri (11-1) in next weekend's SEC championship game, but it could also have an effect on the BCS computers. It's going to be close.

The Buckeyes play No. 10 Michigan State (11-1) in the Big Ten championship game.

Should an unbeaten Big Ten team be sent to the BCS national title game ahead of a one-loss SEC team? That debate figures to intensify over the next week. Bill Bender, Sporting News
