Alabama's strength and conditioning coach made waves Monday.

Let's repeat: Alabama's strength and conditioning coach made headlines.

The news was basic — Scott Cochran turned down Georgia coach Kirby Smart's offer, opting to stay in Tuscaloosa with Nick Saban — but it became much bigger when you see just how much he's getting paid at Alabama.

According to AL.com, Cochran made $420,000 in 2015, more than two of Alabama's on-field assistants and 10 FBS head coaches. Imagine how much that figure grew to keep Cochran in Tuscaloosa.

What if he got a raise to $500,000? He'd be No. 106 on USA Today's database of coaching salaries, ahead of what Matt Campbell made at Toledo ($495,000) and Dino Babers at Bowling Green ($413,000).

What if it's $600,000? That would be good for No. 93, more than all but one MAC coach — Western Michigan's P.J. Fleck, the highest-paid MAC coach, makes $802,500 — and on par with Brad Lambert of Charlotte, which is in its first year as a Division-I program.

If those figures seem crazy, look at the facility he runs: a $9 million, 37,000-square foot weight room that opened in 2013.

That's a lot of dough for a strength program.

Then again, it's Alabama.
