Alabama and LSU are considered the best SEC west teams. With an expanded conference and no more divisions, what does that mean for the Tide and Tigers?
For starters, it means they don't need to compete in the SEC title game to head to the CFB playoffs. The conference championship will now be determined by the team with the two best records, so while that game is certainly important, in the grand scheme of things it's not needed to make the 12-team playoffs.
Coming off a CFP semifinals loss, Alabama will take the field without Nick Saban for the first time since 2006. Kalen DeBoer, Washington's former head coach, took over the title after Saban announced his retirement in January.
Mean while, LSU will be experiencing life after Heisman winner Jayden Daniels. It'll be a true test of how well Brian Kelly can adapt to the SEC in his third season with the Tigers.
