What looked like it would be another low-scoring affair in the Alabama-LSU series turned into a classic finish at Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
The Tigers scratched out a 32-31 win, punctuated by Brian Kelly's decision to go for a (successful) 2-point conversion following the end of the first overtime period. The gamble paid off, as LSU earned its second win against the Crimson Tide since 2019 following a nine-game win streak by the Tide.
The night belonged to LSU, but Alabama doubtless will wonder about points it left on the field, including a Bryce Young interception in the end zone that negated a drive that was at that point inside the Tigers' 5-yard line. Alabama also went for two 2-point conversion attempts, both of which failed and sent the game to overtime.
But the story of the night is Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels, who not only completed 22 of 32 passes for 182 yards and two scores, but also added 18 for 95 yards and another touchdown.

The teams combined for five scores in the fourth quarter alone, resulting in four lead changes and a 46-yard field goal by Will Reichard that sent the game to overtime knotted at 24. Alabama scored first with a 1-yard Roydell Williams touchdown; the following play, Daniels took a quarterback keeper 25 yards unimpeded for the touchdown.
One play later, he found tight end Mason Taylor in the end zone for the go-ahead score:

On the other side, Young overcame the slow start to complete 25 of 51 passes for 328 yards, a touchdown and the interception. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs led all rushers in the game with 99 rushes on 15 carries while Ja'Corey Brooks led all receivers with 97 yards and a score.

10:54 p.m.: Young targets Gibbs all the way out of the backfield for a 6-yard gain to the 6. Alabama can get a first down without a touchdown.
10:53 p.m.: Convoluted play but Young scrambles 11 yards to the LSU 12-yard line.
10:53 p.m.: Gibbs takes the handoff for 2 yards, setting up second-and-8 from the LSU 23.
10:51 p.m.: LSU has won the toss, putting Young and Co. on the field first.

10:48 p.m.: Or not. The Tigers take a knee and are happy to take this to overtime.

10:45 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, ALABAMA. Goodness gracious. Reichard's 45-yard field goal just sneaks over the crossbar to tie the game at 24. Alabama and LSU are tied at 24 with 21 seconds left.

10:35 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, LSU. One play later, Daniels floats it to Taylor for an 8-yard touchdown in the back of the end zone. The Tigers simply go for the PAT, giving them a 24-21 lead with 1:47 to play.

10:33 p.m.: LSU has third-and-7 from the Alabama 21 with 2:26 left to play.
10:31 p.m.: Ensuing play, Branch is called for pass interference on Boutte. That gives LSU a first down at Alabama's 24.
10:31 p.m.: Alabama has no spy on Daniels on third-and-5, and he rushes all the way to the Tide 39. Clock is ticking close to the 3-minute mark.
10:29 p.m.: The Tigers have the ball with 4:44 left to play at their own 25. They need a touchdown.
10:24 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, ALABAMA. Young had to evade no fewer than five LSU defenders converging on him in the pocket, and he somehow found Brooks wide open downfield for a 41-yard score. Again the 2-point conversion fails. Alabama now leads 22-17 with 4:44 left to play.

10:20 p.m.: LSU's kickoff is out of bounds, giving Alabama the ball at the 35.

10:16 p.m.: Bama stops LSU on third-and-manageable for a loss. The Tigers' field goal unit comes out.
10:14 p.m.: Regardless, LSU has first down at the Alabama 20.
10:13 p.m.: Daniels takes a keeper and makes up for a 3-yard sack on first down. He gets the line to gain, then Branch launches at the quarterback. Officials pick up the flag because he never made contact with Daniels. A lucky break for the Tide defense.
10:11 p.m.: Multiple flags on the play. Could be offsides, or something in the secondary. ... LSU takes a pass interference to set up first down at the Bama 30.
10:09 p.m.: On the following play, Nabers has a circus catch on the sideline for a 22-yard gain to midfield.
10:08 p.m.: Boutte took a heck of a shot from Branch but still held onto the ball for a first down at the 28.
10:07 p.m.: LSU will take over at its 17-yard line.

10:03 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, ALABAMA. The Crimson Tide retake the lead with a 2-yard run by Williams, the power back. The Crimson Tide are going for 2.

10:02 p.m.: Tough running by Gibbs sets up first-and-goal at about the 2-yard line. That's a 14-yard gain.
10 p.m.: Young tries and fails to scramble and make a play, but it appears the Crimson Tide are bailed out by both defensive holding and a facemask penalty. Alabama accepts the latter to set up first down at the 16.
9:58 p.m.: Young dumps it to Gibbs who takes it 6 yards to the 31-yard line for a first down.
9:56 p.m.: Gibbs gets a much-needed 34-yard run past midfield. Alabama has it first-and-10 to the LSU 42.
Third quarter: LSU 14, Alabama 9
9:52 p.m.: Young has Burton open, but throws a wobbler behind him and is nearly picked off. That will end the third quarter.
9:51 p.m.: Daniels' third-down pass to Boutte is behind the receiver, bringing out the punt team from the 35-yard line. Alabama will take over at its 24-yard line.
9:49 p.m.: Daniels rolls left and finds Boutte at the 32 for a first down.
9:47 p.m.: Now a false start gives LSU first-and-15 from the 15. Tigers costing themselves yardage with penalties.
9:45 p.m.: The Tigers take over at their 35, but LSU is called for unnecessary roughness after the play. That moves LSU back to the 20.
9:45 p.m.: Holding for Alabama on third down. LSU declines after forcing an incompletion, bringing up fourth-and-8. Followed by a false start on the punt.
9:42 p.m.: The Crimson Tide take over at their 25 following the LSU touchdown.
9:39 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, LSU. One play later, Williams powers through a tackle for a 2-yard touchdown. LSU retakes the lead 14-9 with 3:30 left in the third quarter.

9:37 p.m.: False start on LSU brings up third-and-goal from the 8-yard line for the Tigers.
9:35 p.m.: Daniels withstands the pressure and finds Boutte over the middle with LSU transfer Eli Ricks in coverage. Tigers have first-and-goal at the 9.
9:31 p.m.: Timeout, LSU (4:44). Tigers face third-and-7 from the Alabama 18.
9:30 p.m.: Josh Williams gets a 16-yard gain on third-and-2 down to the 21-yard line.

9:24 p.m.: LSU gets a good push up the middle, forcing Young to overthrow Latu. Reichard's back on to attempt a field goal.
9:24 p.m.: Young gets the ball out quick with defenders blitzing off the edge. He finds Brooks for an 8-yard gain to the LSU 20, setting up third-and-6.
9:20 p.m.: Young takes a 4-yard sack with Joe Foucha putting a heck of a swim move on Latham on the right tackle. Left tackle Tyler Steen is down on the field following the play.
9:19 p.m.: The officials reverse the call, marking Brooks down at the 24.
9:17 p.m.: Young finds Brooks in the zone, and the latter refuses to go down after it appears LSU defenders thought he was down. He gained several yards after the fact inside the 20-yard line. Replay shows he was down at the point of contact.
9:16 p.m.: Again Alabama goes to Williams, who again gets the first down. The Tide have a fresh set of downs at the LSU 39.
9:13 p.m.: Timeout, Alabama (11:04). Alabama calls the timeout as Young attempts to get the offense set with the play clock ticking below 5 seconds.
9:12 p.m.: Alabama again faces fourth-and-short, this time at the LSU 40.
9:10 p.m.: Young bobbles the snap but gets the ball to Williams for a yard and first down at midfield.
9:10 p.m.: Officials reverse the call, and it appears as if the Crimson Tide will go for it.
9:09 p.m.: Replay appears to show McClellan short a half-yard. He slowed up instead of going for the first down in an attempt to make the defender, Mekhi Garner, miss.
9:08 p.m.: Young finds McClellan for what officials call a first-down gain near the line to gain at the 49. Looks like officials will review the call.
9:06 p.m.: Gibbs bounces the ball outside for a 14-yard gain to the Alabama 39-yard line.
9:05 p.m.: Alabama will take over at its 25-yard line.
Halftime: LSU 7, Alabama 6
8:46 p.m.: Halftime stats:

8:45 p.m.: FIELD GOAL, ALABAMA. Reichard's 36-yard field goal is true, cutting LSU's lead to 7-6 at the half. The Crimson Tide will receive the ball out of halftime.
8:44 p.m.: Timeout, LSU (0:05). Last one for LSU in an attempt to freeze Reichard.
8:43 p.m.: Timeout, LSU (0:05).
8:42 p.m.: Timeout, Alabama (0:05).
8:41 p.m.: Young goes to Gibbs for the third straight time and finds him for an 8-yard gain underneath the zone. Not enough for a conversion, and now it looks like Alabama will run the clock out and attempt a last-second field goal.
8:38 p.m.: With that, Alabama's drive continues at the Tigers' 26-yard line.
8:37 p.m.: Oh my, Latu's touch was out of bounds. Saves Alabama's possession. Tiger Stadium is livid.

8:33 p.m.: Fumble recovery, LSU. Safety Sage Ryan wraps up Cameron Latu and slings him down for a fumble. The play is under replay. The rules expert says because Latu was out of bounds and touched the ball before the LSU defender gained possession, it's an automatic fumble out of bounds. Let's see if the officials agree.
8:33 p.m.: Now Young finds Brooks across the middle for another first down to the LSU 40.
8:32 p.m.: Young finds his running back, this time Gibbs for 12 yards on the third-down conversion. Tide driving now at their 46.
8:30 p.m.: Young finds running back Roydell Williams for 5 yards and a first down to the Alabama 30.
8:24 p.m.: The ball rolls dead at the 29-yard line, but there's a penalty ... holding on Alabama's Shazz Preston. That will move the Tide back to the 19.
8:24 p.m.: The Crimson Tide stop the Tigers for losses on second and third down, bringing up fourth-and-7 from the Tigers' 46.
8:23 p.m.: LSU slowing things down now as the Tigers near midfield. Don't want to leave Alabama too much time to score in the event the Tigers get on the board again.
8:22 p.m.: Daniels finds Kayshon Boutte for the first time for a 17-yard gain to the LSU 41.
8:21 p.m.: Noah Cain's return gets LSU to the 24-yard line.
8:18 p.m.: Field goal, Alabama. Will Reichard finally gets Alabama on the board with a 30-yard field goal. LSU still leads 7-3 with 5:56 left in the half.
8:17 p.m.: Harold Perkins Jr. gets a third-down coverage sack on Young, keeping the Tide out of the end zone, at least.
8:15 p.m.: Tigers send a blitz on third-and-11, and Tide make them pay. Young finds McClellan, who takes it all the way to the LSU 11-yard line.

8:13 p.m.: Alabama allows the kickoff to go into the end zone, giving it the best field position in four drives.
8:09 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, LSU. The Tigers finally make good use of the field position with a 30-yard touchdown connection between Daniels and Emery. Bama sent the blitz and Emery was all alone as he slipped out of the backfield. That makes it 7-0 LSU with 9:46 left in the half.

8:07 p.m.: Next play, LSU fakes the run and dumps it to Brian Thomas Jr. for a 15-yard gain to the 25.
8:07 p.m.: John Emery Jr. is stopped for about a 4-yard gain, then powers forward for a 9-yard run to the Bama 40.
8:03 p.m.: Third straight three-and-out for Alabama. LSU winning the battle of field position by a mile right now; Gregory Clayton Jr. has a fair catch at Alabama's 49.
8:01 p.m.: Holding on Alabama makes it first-and-15 Bama from its own 5.
8 p.m.: The MVP early on is LSU punter Jay Bramblett, who just had his third punt in a row fielded at or around the Alabama 10.
7:59 p.m.: A caravan of Alabama defenders get to Daniels on third down for the first sack of the night. Looks like Turner and Will Anderson.
7:57 p.m.: Daniels finds tight end Mason Taylor all alone in the flat for a 14-yard gain to the Alabama 46.
First quarter: Alabama 0, LSU 0
7:52 p.m.: Armoni Goodwin breaks off a 4-yard run off the left tackle to midfield, but holding negates the first-down run. The spot foul gives the Tigers second-and-8 at the 40. That will end the quarter.
7:50 p.m.: Bama's punt isn't great but again rolls several yards. LS will take over at its 38.
7:49 p.m.: That's another three-and-out for Alabama. Young now has seven straight incompletions after he had three straight completions.
7:48 p.m.: False start on right tackle JC Latham sets up third-and-15 from the 6.
7:45 p.m.: Penalty is overturned, but still an incompletion. Good punt gives Alabama the ball back at around the 10.
7:44 p.m.: Daniels is called for illegal throw past the line of scrimmage. Video seems to show his back foot was behind the marker, but the pass fell incomplete regardless, bringing up fourth down.
7:42 p.m.: Daniels finds Nabers for 11 yards to the 33-yard line for a first down.
7:41 p.m.: Tigers will take over at their 22-yard line following an Alabama bounce-and-roll on the punt.
7:40 p.m.: Young takes it 9 yards on third-and-10, bringing out the punt team. Nice three-and-out by LSU, and that should result in some decent field position.
7:38 p.m.: Timeout, LSU (3:58). Curious, considering Alabama was about to get called for delay of game.
7:33 p.m.: Kool-Aid McKinstry calls for the fair catch at the 10-yard line.
7:32 p.m.: LSU again gets a couple first downs and into Alabama territory. Again the punt team comes out. The Crimson Tide haven't sacked Daniels yet, but are getting pressure.
7:30 p.m.: Dallas Turner is called for a horse collar tackle on what would have been a tackle short of the first down. That gives the Tigers another first down at Alabama's 43.
7:24 p.m.: Interception, LSU. Young tried to do too much on second down, pulling up on a run and side-arming a pass. He had his receiver open, but threw it behind his receiver. Jarrick Bernard-Converse made him pay with the pick, and LSU will take over at its 20 following the touchback.

7:16 p.m.: Alabama will take over at its 20 following the touchback.

7:14 p.m.: Holding on LSU makes it first-and-20 for LSU at the Tigers' 44.
7:12 p.m.: Jayden Daniels hits Malik Nabers for a 6-yard gain on third-and-6. Add on 15 yards for roughing the passer on Henry To'o To'o, giving LSU first-and-10 at the Alabama 46.
