The AP Top 25 Poll rankings for Week 7 are just in and things are looking very different for Alabama, thanks to the 34-40 upset against Vanderbilt.
Alabama fell six places in the AP Top 25 Poll after Saturday's nightmarish loss. The earlier No.1 ranked Alabama now sits at No. 7 in the poll, while the former week 6, No.2 Texas is now No.1.
Kalen DeBoer's flawless execution of the first four games might save him from the humiliation, but getting back to that top spot would be the real redemption.
Kalen DeBoer on the mega-upset loss
"We've been tested in different ways, really, a lot of the games here this season, and this is a different type of test now in our response," coach DeBoer said post-game. This test was truly out of the box for Alabama. It was the first time in more than 40 years that Vanderbilt emerged victorious against the Crimson Tide.
Almost as if justifying the humiliation for a team who was coming off a spectacular Georgia win, the Bama head coach said, "I feel we have a great football team. We weren't at our best today."
Alabama faces South Carolina next at home on Saturday. While a sole win will hardly get DeBoer and Co. out of this embarrassing pitfall, it would still be a step in that direction.
