The Cleveland Browns have a QB problem; more specifically, a Deshaun Watson problem. While Watson still has $92 million coming his way via a $230 million guaranteed contract the Browns gave him after trading their 2022, 2023, and 2024 first-round picks, along with fourth-rounders in 2022 and 2024 and a third in 2023, he is no longer an NFL QB1 – and Cleveland’s front office needs to address that. Enter Alabama QB Jalen Milroe.
Milroe went No. 3 in a mock draft from Sporting News’s Vinnie Iyer, who believes the page needs to be turned on the Browns’ Watson chapter immediately.
“NFL scouts will be interested in the latest Crimson Tide dual-threat, who can remind them of the Eagles' Jalen Hurts with his strong arm and great mobility,” Iyer wrote. “Milroe has had a big year to climb back in the top-10 discussion, and whoever is the coach of the Browns next season needs to flip the page from the Deshaun Watson experience.”
Not only is Watson a polarizing figure, but some fans are embracing his past transgressions in a disastrous way for their PR. Moving on from him for just about anyone would be a good call. Even if it’s Jameis Winston. Immediately.
But waiting for Milroe would be a great call considering his abilities and big-game attributes.
Jalen Milroe has won several big games at Alabama
Between the 2023 SEC Championship Game, their Week 5 win against Georgia this season, or even the 2023 Iron Bowl where Milroe was a 4th-and-31 miracle away from losing to Auburn and potentially sinking their College Football Playoff hopes, Alabama’s star QB is a strong option for any NFL team. His athleticism will translate, though there are fair questions about if his accuracy is good enough as is.
Regardless, the Browns need a fix under center. They’re a QB away from being a Super Bowl contender. Look at where Joe Flacco got them in 2023.
Milroe is a better answer than anyone else in Cleveland’s QB room. It’d be a worthy risk for Andrew Berry and Co.
