Zach Edey stats today: Purdue star nears NCAA Tournament record in loss to UConn image

Zach Edey has done everything throughout the NCAA Tournament to help get Purdue to the national title game, and he did everything in his power to help the Boilermakers hoist their first championship trophy in program history.

However, despite a historic effort from the two-time national player of the year, Purdue came up short against a dominant UConn team that won all its NCAA Tournament games by at least 14 points. The Huskies wound up setting the record for largest margin of victory in tournament history.

Edey led the nation in average points per game (24.9) and was third in rebounds per game (12.2). Heading into Monday's national championship, he had a double-double in each game with at least 20 points scored in all of them.

How did he do in the national championship? Here's what you need to know.

Points

Edey finished Monday's contest with 37 points.

The game marked Edey's most points scored in a game this season, and his 15 field goals and 25 field-goal attempts were also both season-highs. He was also 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

Edey scored 16 points in the first half, then wound up tacking on 21 points in the second half. He went 7-of-12 in the first and 8-of-13 in the second.

Rebounds

In the battle of the giants against Donovan Clingan, Edey was contained a bit more than usual. He racked up 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Edey had at least 12 rebounds in all other tournament games. Only in 11 other games this season did Edey have 10 or fewer rebounds.

Edey also tallied a pair of blocks against the Huskies, both coming in the first half.

Most points in an NCAA Tournament run

Edey's games nearly secured him the record for the most points during a tournament run.

Glen Rice holds the record for the most points scored during a single March Madness run with 184 in 1989. Edey wound up tied for second with Bill Bradley.

Rank Player Points Year
1 Glen Rice 184 1989

T-2 Zach Edey 177 2024

Most points in an NCAA Tournament championship game

Edey's point total from Monday's game nearly landed him in another historic spot. His 37 points tied him for the fourth-most in a championship game, just seven shy of Bill Walton's record of 44.
