Virginia Tech has found its new coach.
The Hokies announced on Sunday that Mike Young has been hired as their new head coach. Young had previously held the same position at Wofford, where he led the Terriers to a 30-5 record and an undefeated mark in conference play that led to a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. As a result, he was named Sporting News Coach of the Year.

"Coach Young has earned tremendous respect and admiration across the nation for the integrity and winning tradition that were trademarks of his program at Wofford," Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock said.
The news of Young's hiring comes less than a week after former Hokies head coach Buzz Williams took the coaching job at Texas A&M. Williams was 100-69 in five seasons at Virginia Tech and brought the Hokies to the Sweet 16 in 2019. The pursuit of Young also came on the heels of the news that Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard, who Virginia Tech had targeted for its vacancy, would be staying with the Pirates.

Young went 299-244 with the Terriers and took them to five NCAA Tournaments in 10 seasons. He will assume a Hokies roster that brings back a cast led by Kerry Blackshear Jr. and potentially Nickeil Alexander-Walker, depending on whether he declares for the NBA Draft.
"I've long admired Virginia Tech from afar for its principles, as well as for the ability of its athletic programs to consistently win with integrity," Young said. "I can't wait to meet our student-athletes, support staff and fans as we prepare to get to work in Blacksburg."
