UNLV and Dayton will not play their basketball game scheduled for Wednesday night in Ohio due to an active shooter situation on the UNLV campus.

It is currently unclear if the contest, which was scheduled to take place at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT) and broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network, will be postponed to a later date or canceled entirely.

"Due to the tragic events unfolding on UNLV’s campus, tonight's men's basketball contest between UNLV and the University of Dayton will not be played," Dayton's basketball account on X posted Wednesday afternoon. "Further information will be released when available. We ask that our fans keep the UNLV community in their thoughts and prayers."

"Our hearts go out to the entire UNLV community as they deal with this tragedy," Dayton president Eric Spina posted on X, formerly Twitter. "We pray for healing and strength for UNLV students, faculty, and staff, along with the first responders and their entire community. UD stands ready to support UNLV personnel who've traveled to Dayton."

The Rebels basketball team was already in Ohio before the active shooter situation began at the Las Vegas campus earlier on Wednesday.

At 11:54 a.m. PT on Wednesday, Dec. 6, UNLV's University Police Services (UPD) reported that the unit was responding to a report of shots being fired at Frank and Estella Beam Hall on the Las Vegas campus.

Eight minutes later at 12:02 p.m. PT, a shelter-in-place was issued to the campus. At 12:20 p.m. PT, UPD reported that there were additional shots being fired in UNLV's Student Union.

UPD reported at 12:45 p.m. PT that the suspect had been contained by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. The police were then going through buildings one at a time to ensure they had been evacuated.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that multiple people were shot during the incident. The suspect also has been confirmed dead.

"We do have one suspect down,"McMahill said. "We have no idea on the motive. There have been a number of victims transported to area hospitals. I don't want to give you false information and tell you how many victims that we have. We will be providing that update very, very shortly.

"I want to assure the community that there is no further threat. We are continuing the investigation here."
