As upsets galore have taken hold of the college basketball landscape, No. 1 Connecticut has managed to stay above the fray. But a stiff test awaits the Huskies when they take on Villanova on Saturday night.

Since opening Big East play with a loss to Seton Hall on Dec. 20, Connecticut has ripped off six consecutive conference wins. On Wednesday, the Huskies handled No. 18 Creighton, 62-48.

Senior guard Tristen Newton continued to stuff the stat sheet, posting 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Plus, sophomore center Donovan Clingan returned from a foot injury that had sidelined him for five games; Clingan posted six points and five rebounds in 15 minutes of action.

Villanova’s up-and-down season continues, as the Wildcats have dropped two of their last three games on the heels of a four-game winning streak. In Monday’s 87-74 loss to Marquette, the Golden Eagles shot 59% from the field against a porous Villanova defense.

Mark Armstrong proved a lone bright spot, as the sophomore guard set a new career high with 24 points. Overall, Eric Dixon continues to be a steady force, as the senior forward has scored in double figures in every Big East game.

This will be the first of two games between the sides in the regular season. They will meet again on Feb. 24 in Storrs.
