The defending champions are back to make history. UConn could become the first Division I men's basketball to win consecutive championships since Florida did it in 2006 and 2007.

UConn won in 2023 as a No. 4 seed. This time around, they are the No. 1 overall seed and will face No. 16 Stetson in the first round. The Huskies are coming off a Big East tournament title and a seven-game winning streak. UConn has only three total losses on the season.

Stetson, meanwhile, will make its NCAA debut this season. The Hatters won the ASUN behind junior guard Jalen Blackman, who averaged 21.5 points per game and put up 43 in the conference championship game.

UConn boasts a talented and more balanced roster than the one that one in 2023. Four players average more than 12 points per game, led by senior guards Tristen Newton (15.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists) and Cam Spencer (14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists).

The Huskies have a top-25 offense and a top-15 defense, too, that shoots nearly 50% from the field and allows less than 40% shooting from its opponents. UConn also distributes the rock a lot with 18.5 assists per game — the fourth-most in the country.

Blackmon is the top threat for Stetson, who score 77.5 points per game. The Hatters also shoot well from 3-point range with 37% shooting percentage.
