As part of the beginning of the NCAA March Madness tournament, the South Carolina Gamecocks will take on the Oregon Ducks in Pittsburgh this Thursday.
The Gamecocks received an at-large bid to compete in the dance. They finished the season as the No. 15 team in the country. They recently lost to Auburn in in the SEC tournament quarterfinal, 86-55.
They had a strong regular season despite the conference tournament loss. They finished fifth in the extremely competitive SEC that saw five teams finish in the top 25.
The Gamecocks haven't been to the dance since the 2016-17 season. That year, they lost in the Final Four to Gonzaga. This is their first tournament berth under coach Lamont Paris.
The Ducks, on the other hand, earned an automatic bid to the tournament for defeating Colorado in the Pac 12 conference tournament final. They finished in fourth place in the Pac 12.
N'Faly Dante was perfect in the Pac 12 conference final game. He shot 12-for-12 from the field to pour in 25 points and lead the Ducks to a win. Jermaine Couisnard has led the team consistently this season, posting 15.4 points per game.
The Ducks haven't been to the tournament since the 2020-21 season, when they lost in the Sweet 16. This tournament marks Dana Altman's eighth with the Ducks as coach.
