It’s a top-25 ACC showdown in Chapel Hill as No. 25 North Carolina hosts No. 17 Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon.

The Hokies (17-4) have ripped off four straight wins after dropping back-to-back games early on in conference play, pulling within a half game of Louisville for first place in the ACC. Virginia Tech last toppled in-state rival Virginia on Thursday, winning 76-63.

Senior Elizabeth Kitley led the way against the Cavaliers with a monstrous 33-point, 18-rebound performance. The 6-6 preseason All-American leads the Hokies with career-highs in points (21.9) and rebounds (11) per game this season.

The Tar Heels (15-7), meanwhile, are trending in the opposite direction, having lost two straight games on the heels of a four-game winning streak. On Thursday, North Carolina fell to its own in-state rival, No. 5 NC State, 63-59, on the road in Raleigh.

Senior guard Deja Kelly — the Tar Heels’ leading scorer at 16.2 points per game — netted 21 points against the Wolfpack. But North Carolina made only four 3-pointers and scored just 11 points in the final quarter, unable to score a field goal in the final 3:45 minutes of play.

This is the first meeting between the two conference foes this season. They will face off again in Blacksburg on February 25.
