Juwan Staten was the hero in Morgantown on Monday night as No. 23 West Virginia knocked off No. 8 Kansas, 62-61.

After the two teams traded blows in the second half, the Mountaineers' leading scorer capped a stellar performance with the game-winning layup with six seconds remaining on the clock.

Staten finished with a game-high 20 points and added four assists to guide West Virginia (20-6, 8-5 Big 12) to victory. He was one of only two Mountaineers in double figures.

"We're ready to get on a roll. We're ready to shock the world," said Staten in his post-game interview on ESPN.

Kansas (21-5, 10-3 Big 12) had the opportunity to win the game in the final seconds, but Perry Ellis' layup with two seconds on the clock rolled off the rim. The Jayhawks were led in the game by Ellis' 19 points.

With the victory, West Virginia climbed to within two games of Kansas in the Big 12 standings. The two teams will meet again when the Mountaineers visit the Jayhawks on March 3.
