The NBA HBCU Classic returns for a third consecutive year at the NBA All-Star weekend in Indianapolis on Saturday. 

This year, Winston-Salem State and Virginia Union will square off in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) matchup. In addition, both universities will receive $100,000 from the NBA and AT&T, as the league continues to support HBCUs. 

In last year's event, Grambling defeated Southern University in overtime.

Where to watch the NBA HBCU Classic: TV channel, live stream

The 2024 NBA HBCU Classic will air nationally on three different channels, as the event will be simulcast on TNT, ESPN2 and NBA TV. Brian Custer (play-by-play), Grant Hill (color analyst) and Chris Haynes (sideline reporter) will anchor the coverage, with Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe — both HBCU alumni — will also appear on the broadcast. 

Viewers can also stream the game on Sling. Sling is the home for the avid sports fans, offering a range of sports channels so you can always cheer for your favorite teams with channels like ESPN, TBS, TNT, NFL Network, FS1 and more.

What time does the NBA HBCU Classic start?

  • Date: Saturday, Feb. 17
  • Time: 2 p.m. ET

Virginia Union vs. Winston-Salem State at the 2024 NBA HBCU Classic will tip off around 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 17. The game will be played at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Who is playing in the 2024 NBA HBCU Classic?

Virginia Union will meet Winston-Salem State at the 2024 NBA HBCU Classic. 

Both teams play in the CIAA, with Virginia Union in the Northern Division and Winston-Salem State in the Southern Division. 

The Rams enter the game in second place in the Southern Division, touting a 16-8 overall record and a 5-5 mark in conference. The Panthers, meanwhile, are in second place in the Northern Division with an 11-15 overall mark and a 5-2 record in conference play. 

Senior guard Jaylen Alston leads WSSU in scoring at 17.7 points, while also leading the team with eight rebounds per game. Junior guard Tahj Harding leads Virginia Union at 19.2 points per game.
