Louisville forward Montrezl Harrell was apologetic following Saturday's game against Western Kentucky, in which he was ejected in the final minute of the first half after appearing to throw a punch

"I made a choice, and it was a bad choice," he told reporters. "I gotta live with the consequences. My team responded well. “They came out in a hostile situation, in a hostile environment, and they responded well."

DeCOURCY: Harrell should be facing stiffer penalty

Harrell, who had 14 points, six rebounds and two assists as Louisville led 29-24 at the half, was called for a Flagrant 2 foul, but not for fighting. Therefore, he won't be suspended for Lousville's next game against Cal State Northridge on Dec. 23, Louisville sports information director Kenny Klein told media covering the game in Bowling Green, Ky.

Harrell — all 6-8, 240 pounds of him — was caught up in a scuffle for a loose ball when things got chippy. Both coaches — Louisville's Rick Pitino and Western Kentucky's Ray Harper — were whistled for technicals as well. WKU's T.J. Price sank both technical free throws while Louisville's Wayne Blackshear sank 1 of 2. WKU's DJ Clayton received a Flagrant 1 call on the play as well.

“It was a heated situation,” Harrell said. “Everything took a turn for the worse. It’s bad that I overreacted in the heat of the moment, and I just want to apologize to my teammates. I want to apologize to the University of Louisville and apologize to my coaching staff. I know I shouldn’t have acted that way and I’m truly sorry.”
