Michigan and Michigan State look to rejuvenate their respective seasons when they pen another chapter in their storied in-state rivalry in East Lansing on Tuesday night.
The Wolverines (7-13) are in sole possession of last place in the Big Ten, thanks to a 2-7 mark in conference play. They have lost their last three games amid subpar defense, having allowed at least 88 points in all three games.
Michigan will be without its leading scorer, point guard Dug McDaniel, who continues to serve a road game-only suspension so he can focus on academics. Without McDaniel, the Wolverines will rely more heavily on the likes of forward Olivier Nkamhoua. A Tennessee transfer, he is second on the team with 16.3 points per game and leads Michigan with 7.1 rebounds per game.
DeCOURCY'S DOZEN: Defending champ UConn is even better than last year
Michigan State began the year ranked No. 4 in the AP poll, but things went downhill fast for the Spartans, who began the season 4-5.
Michigan State has played better of late, but saw a three-game winning streak end against Wisconsin on Friday night. A typically stout defense allowed 81 points while the Badgers shot 51% from the field.
The Spartans are anchored by their backcourt, particularly fifth-year senior Tyson Walker. Walker is averaging a career-best 19.3 points per game while shooting a career-high 47% from the field.
