LSU won the first championship in program history last season. Now, the Tigers will attempt to become the first team to capture back-to-back titles since UConn rattled off four championship runs in a row from 2013-16.
Coach Kim Mulkey and her players enter the season as the No. 1 team in the AP women's college basketball poll — and for good reason. The Tigers are bringing back NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Angel Reese, who averaged 23.0 points and 15.4 rebounds per game last season. The team is also adding Hailey Van Lith, who transferred from Louisville to LSU during the offseason.

But Mulkey knows the road to another trophy will present several hurdles. The Tigers must be prepared to take each opponent's best shot.
"They do know that when you are defending national champions, that comes with a lot of expectations," Mulkey said, "and it comes with a target on you."
