Rick Pitino to coach Puerto Rican national team this summer image

Once Louisville's season is over this year, head coach Rick Pitino will have a new offseason challenge to look forward to. 

In his Monday press conference, Pitino announced that he will coach the Puerto Rican national basketball team in two international events this summer.

The Hall of Famer will guide Puerto Rico during the Pan American Games in Toronto July 21-25 and the pre-Olympic FIBA qualifying tournament in Monterrey, Mexico Aug. 25-Sept. 5. The top two teams of the ten-team field in the FIBA tournament will qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

"I'm looking forward to putting in the unique style of play that hopefully will get the team over the hump," Pitino said in the news conference, per the Associated Press. 

Louisville will travel to the Bahamas in August to play exhibition games against the Puerto Rican national and junior teams instead of traveling to Spain as originally planned.

Training camp for Puerto Rico will being on July 1, with the team also scheduled to train in Louisville in August.
