Five-star center James Wiseman ended the suspense on Tuesday by announcing his commitment to play for the Memphis Tigers.

Using a bedazzled stuffed unicorn adorned with the Memphis logo, Wiseman made his decision in front of friends and family during the early signing period. The Tigers were thought of as favorites due to Wiseman's relationship with Memphis coach Penny Hardaway, who had previously coached Wiseman on Nike's EYBL circuit.

Wiseman, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2019 per 247Sports' Composite rankings, narrowed his choices down to Memphis, Kentucky, Florida State, Kansas and Vanderbilt before choosing the Tigers. The 7-0 Memphis native was believed to have the Tigers and Wildcats in his final two.

Earning the commitment of Wiseman will likely provide a major boost to the Tigers, who have struggled to stay relevant lately. They have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2014 and have yet to finish better than fifth in the American Athletic Conference every year since.

Wiseman joins D.J. Jeffries and Malcolm Dandridge as members of the Tigers' 2019 class, which was ranked No. 36 nationally and No. 1 in the AAC prior to his commitment (it is now ranked 11thn nationally). He is Memphis' first five-star commit since Austin Nichols in 2013.
