Caitlin Clark is closing down on the NCAA women’s basketball scoring record, as the Iowa superstar needs just eight points to set the new mark.

Clark, who is now averaging a whopping 32.1 points per game, will have a chance to break the record in front of her home crowd when the Hawkeyes host Michigan on Thursday night.

Clark flirted with setting a new record in Iowa’s last game Sunday against Nebraska. She tallied 31 points through three quarters, but then went scoreless in the final frame, missing all six of her shot attempts. The Hawkeyes, meanwhile, relinquished a 14 point fourth-quarter lead in the process, as the Cornhuskers surged back to win it, 82-79.

The record, currently held by former Washington standout Kelsey Plum, is almost certain to fall Thursday. Clark’s lowest point total in a game this season is 21, and she has not scored fewer than eight points in a game during her entire college career.

In four prior contests against Michigan, Clark is averaging nearly 35 points per game.
