Hawaii's men's basketball team will begin its 2019-20 season without head coach Eran Ganot on the bench.
Ganot announced Wednesday that he was taking a temporary leave of absence because of an unspecified medial condition.

"Although it pains me to leave the team, there are certain health issues that I need to address," Ganot said in a statement. "I have a plan and I will return. I appreciate my coaches, players and the administration and I look forward to returning to the court as soon as possible."
Assistant coach Chris Gerlufsen will serve as acting head coach in Ganot's absence, beginning with the Rainbow Warriors' season opener Friday vs. Florida A&M in Honolulu.
Ganot, 38, has a 77-48 record in four seasons as Hawaii's coach. The New Jersey native led the team to a 28-6 record and the NCAA Tournament in his first season, 2015-16. Hawaii finished 18-13 in 2018-19.
