This season's first edition of the historic rivalry between No. 9 Duke and No. 21 North Carolina did not dissappoint.
After a first-half that saw Duke's frontcourt utterly dominate the paint and glass, North Carolina stormed back with a level of effort that flat-out overwhelmed the Blue Devils. It almost seemed like the roles were reversed once halftime was over. UNC's dominance in the paint earned them 20 rebounds and limited Duke to only grabbing 31.4 percent of all offensive rebounds.
Joel Berry II and Kenny Williams were the Tar Heel standouts. Berry finished with 21 points, six assists and four rebounds while Williams ended his shooting slump with style making six threes on his way to 20 points for the game.
Duke has dropped three of their last four games, and have fallen four games out of first place in the ACC. This was the Tar Heel's second straight win after losing three in a row themselves.
Sporting News provided live updates below for the matchup known as the Tobacco Road rivalry. Here's what you may have missed...

GAME CENTER: North Carolina 82, Duke 78
Final: North Carolina 82, Duke 78.
9:55 p.m. ET — Duke loses its 2nd straight and 3rd in 4 games. Once to a non-conference team with a sub-.500 record, another to an arch rival. Joel Berry II led all scorers with 21 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Marvin Bagley had 15 points and 16 rebounds.
9:54 p.m. ET — Pinson makes up for it with a late dunk to punctuate the victory.

9:53 p.m. ET — Earlier in the game, Pinson had an opportunity to put the game away with this dunk.
9:52 p.m. ET — After back-to-back misses from three-point range, Bagley scoops up the rebound to bring the game within 4 for Duke. Tar Heels still lead 79-75 with 0:34 remaining.
9:46 p.m. ET — Trevon Duval has fouled out. UNC has made 11 three's, most ever against Duke at home.
9:41 p.m. ET — Marvin Bagley absolutely disrespects the integrity of the game ball and swats it out of bounds. TV Timeout. North Carolina is clinging to their 74-71 lead. Bagley earns his 18th double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Carolina has not scored in the last 4:45.

9:33 p.m. ET — Kenny Williams is now 6 for 12 from three. Duke was hoping the Bagley-Bolden-Carter lineup would scare off Tar Heels with how little space was available, but Roy Williams' squad has more than made up for the lack of space with their three-point shooting. UNC leads 74-65 with 7:55 remaining.
9:23 p.m. ET — Pinson picks up his third foul and Carolina are forced to increase the size of their lineup. No matter as Berry has scored two back-to-back driving layups. Tar Heels lead 67-57.
9:16 p.m. ET — If you blinked, you might have missed North Carolina extending their run to 14-2. They lead 61-53 with 14:48 left. The Blue Devils have half as many shot attempts as the Tar Heels do so far.
9:11 p.m. ET — Duke calls timeout after an 8-2 run from the Tar Heels to start the half. Carolina has been on a 25-11 run over the last nine minutes. The frontcourt looks rejuvenated while Duke's looks lost. UNC leads 53-51.

9:06 p.m. ET — North Carolina's Luke Maye gets things started in the new half. Duke still leads, 49-47.
Halftime: Duke 49, North Carolina 45
8:50 p.m. ET — North Carolina comes storming back after being down as many as 12 points. UNC's Cameron Johnson leads all scorers with 13 points. Each team has less than five turnovers so far in the game. Luke Maye with a few positive plays towards the end of the half including driving against three defenders to earn a foul against Grayson Allen. Marvin Bagley definitely needs more touches if Duke wants to pull away considering how much their frontcourt is dominating (30-14 edge in points in the paint, 21-16 rebound advantage).
8:41 p.m. ET — Duke is leading going into the timeout, 45-38. Tar Heels staying in it with their three-point shooting (7 of 14 from behind the arc). Cameron Johnson and Kenny Williams have 25 of Carolina's points. It honestly feels like a matter of time until Duke pulls away though. They just seem like the more dominant squad while UNC just looks like they're hanging around.
8:35 p.m. ET — The Duke big men are having their way with the North Carolina frontcourt. Back-to-back dunks from Bagley and Wendell.

8:20 p.m. ET — Under-12 media timeout: Tar Heels teporarily took the lead off of a Luke Maye fast-break lay-up. Kenny Williams is 4-5 from 3-point land but Duke is still showing why they're a top-10 squad. They lead 23-21 with 11:13 left in the half.
8:15 p.m. ET — If Carolina is going to have any chance of winning tonight, they'll need to clean up more of Duke's misses. The inside presence is there to force bad shots, but it's not enough to grab the boards.
8:11 p.m. ET — TV timeout. Duke up 10-8 and is outrebounding their opponents 9-3. Duke seems to be coming out in attack mode thanks to the Grayson Allen's aggressiveness, but the Tar Heels have connected on a pair of three's. Also, Marvin Bagley is tall.
