This Thursday, a Round of 64 matchup in the NCAA tournament's Midwest region will take place between the Creighton Bluejays and Akron Zips.
The Bluejays earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament by way of their impressive, 23-9 overall record and 14-6 Big East record. They lost to Providence in the Big East conference tournament in the quarterfinals.
They finished as the No. 11 ranked team in the country, paving the way for them to earn a No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Bluejays have proven themselves as a tournament mainstay, making the last four.
Last season, the Bluejays made the Elite Eight portion of the tournament, falling to San Diego State by one point. That's the furthest they've made it in the tournament in the last four years.
As for the Zips, they earned their tournament bid by winning the Mid-Atlantic Conference tournament. They defeated Kent State by one point in the conference final to earn the conference's automatic bid.
The Zips finished 24-10 this season with a 13-5 MAC record, the second-best mark in the conference. Enrique Freeman has led this team posting 18.6 points and 12.9 rebounds per game this season.
This is the Zips' second NCAA tournament qualifier in the last 11 tournaments. The last tournament they made was the 2021-22 season, when they lost in the first round.
