St. John's will reportedly be looking for a new coach ahead of the 2019-20 season.

In a surprising move, Chris Mullin will down as the head coach of St. John's, per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. The news broke shortly before the start of the national championship game between Virginia and Texas Tech. St. John's has yet to officially confirm the report.

Mullin, a former All-American with the Red Storm as a player, was hired to lead the program in 2015 without any previous head coaching experience. He posted a 59-73 record in four seasons. His team went 21-13 in 2018-19, the only season the Red Storm went over .500 with him as coach. St. John's made it to the First Four this season.

Rothstein later reported that Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley is atop the Red Storm's wishlist to replace Mullin. Hurley, who grew up in Jersey City — 20 minutes from St. John's campus — has back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances with the Sun Devils, who defeated the Red Storm in the First Four.

Hurley's interest in the job is currently unknown.
