Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is hopeful of having injured freshman guard Cassius Stanley back by the New Year.

Stanley had to be helped off the court at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday after hurting his left leg in the second half against Winthrop. He landed hard on the floor after missing a layup.

Krzyzewski said after the game that Stanley will be examined further on Saturday.

A return right after Christmas would make Stanley available for the majority of the top-ranked Blue Devils' ACC schedule. Duke (7-1) has conference games Dec. 6 vs. Virginia Tech and Dec. 31 vs. Boston College.

The 6-6 Stanley scored a season-low four points in 17 minutes before exiting Friday. He started each of Duke's first eight games, averaging 12.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists.
