How many points did Caitlin Clark score today? Iowa nabs third straight Big Ten title with OT win vs. Nebraska image

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for Iowa's Caitlin Clark on Sunday afternoon.

The Hawkeyes standout was left sputtering after a drab first-half display in Iowa's Big Ten Championship duel with Nebraska, scoring just four points in the opening two quarters.

She needed to recalibrate. So, too, did the Hawkeyes, who struggled to mount much of anything amid a steady pour of Cornhuskers defenders.

The second half was a different story, however. Clark was sumptuous. Her teammates — particularly Kate Martin, Hannah Stuelke, and Gabby Marshall — sparkled, and despite Nebraska's best wishes, it was Iowa who danced in confetti rain as they hosted the Big Ten title when the dust settled.

Clark was her typical supernova self, dropping 30 second-half and OT points to lead the comeback. She wasn't alone, though. Stuelke proved a constant thorn in Nebraska's rearguard, putting down 25 to pace the Hawkeyes when Clark wasn't at her best.

As she started finding her rhythm, her fellow Iowans burst into action. Martin was hot from three-point land, sinking four of her five efforts. Marshall wasn't quite as effective from the field, but what she didn't have on the offensive side of the ball, she more than made up for with gritty play and timely defensive stops.

Ultimately, though, Clark was the star. When Iowa needed her, she answered in a big way, recording a near triple-double (34 points, seven rebounds, 12 assists) to spearhead Lisa Bluder's side.

Now, she and the Hawkeyes will turn their sights to March — a time when legacies can be cemented with a simple flick of the wrist. Big Ten titles are cool. National crowns are even better.

The Sporting News tracked live updates from Iowa's clash with Nebraska in the Big Ten Championship. Here's the skinny on all the action that took place as Clark and the Hawkeyes soared beyond their opposition en route to a conference title.

End of overtime: Iowa 94, Nebraska 89

2:20 p.m.: Clark picks off the pass and the Hawkeyes nab their third-consecutive Big Ten title!

2:19 p.m.: Markowki hits from short range to halve Iowa's edge. Martin headed to the free throw line.

2:17 p.m.: Stuelke misses both free throw attempts after being swallowed up in an intentional foul. The Cornhuskers will get the ball back after calling a timeout. But their margin of error is slim.

2:15 p.m.: Marshall swats away Nissley's effort and corrals the rebound! The Hawkeyes are in the driver's seat with 28.8 seconds left!

2:13 p.m.: Shelley's poor pass falls perfectly into Clark's hands! She's headed to the free throw line with a chance to push Iowa's lead to two possessions.

2:12 p.m.: Who else but Clark? Yet another stepback from NCAA's all-time leading scorer. Iowa takes the lead back!

2:11 p.m.: Nissley does it again! Stepback three hands the Huskers yet another lead.

2:09 p.m.: Martin matches with another three of her own! Nary a Cornhusker defender near the Iowa sharpshooter.

2:08 p.m.: Nissley fires up-and-in from the Markowski feed! The freshman looked unfettered by the pressure as Nebraska regains the lead.

2:06 p.m.: Stuelke and Martin combine to give the Hawkeyes a five-point advantage in overtime!

2:03 p.m.: Nissley's effort fall short and we're off to overtime!

2:00 p.m.: Clark takes it to the cup! The Hawkeyes tie it up at 77! She's got 28 in the second half! What a showing for the senior star!

1:58 p.m.: Clark conjures up a bit of magic before finding corner specialist Kate Martin for the three! Iowa is down two!

1:57 p.m.: Clark finds Stuelke on the fast break! But Nebraska responds with a Markowski layup.

1:54 p.m.: Huge stepback three by Clark! Iowa down five! But the Hawkeyes need to show some urgency as today's game dwindles down the stretch.

1:53 p.m.: Offensive foul on Clark! The Cornhuskers lead by six with 2:53 left as the struggles continue for the Hawkeyes offense.

1:51 p.m.: Tremendous two-man game between Shelley and Markowski. Shelley delivers a precise lefty pass right into Markowski's grasp, who frolics through traffic before finishing with aplomb. The Cornhuskers can taste the champagne!

1:47 p.m.: Back-to-back threes give Nebraska a little breathing room! The Huskers have had an answer for every Iowa blow thus far!

1:42 p.m.: Unreal shot by Clark, who creates an inch of space via crossover before launching a three into the endless abyss of the net. Iowa takes the lead! Clark has 17 in the second and 21 for the game. She's really found a rhythm this period.

End of third quarter: Nebraska 58, Iowa 58

1:32 p.m.: Clark sinks from distance! But then Markowski places one in to respond! Nebraska retake the advantage!

1:28 p.m.: Markowski nets from short-range as the Huskers snap their four-minute dry spell...and take the lead.

1:23 p.m.: Shelley taking serious pride in her matchup against Clark. However, the Iowa star finally found space through the mire and flicked one up and in to give Iowa its first lead.

1:19 p.m.: Stuelke continues to flex her offensive might in the paint. Bypassed a marker and floated a left-handed effort into the basket to bring the Hawkeyes within one.

1:16 p.m.: Hannah Stuelke is Iowa’s standout today. The lithe combo forward is leading the way for the Hawkeyes with 15 points. Given Clark’s inefficiency, you could argue she’s keeping Iowa in the game.

1:12 p.m.: Shelley answers Clark’s three-point bomb with one of her own! Nebraska will need her rhythmic shooting to continue as Iowa continues to battle back!

End of second quarter: Nebraska 46, Iowa 35

12:51 p.m.: Shelley rainbows one in from distance the beat the buzzer! The Cornhuskers are making their presence felt as the first half comes to a close. Clark has just four points in this one. It'll be hard for Iowa to pick up this one without an upswing in her scoring.

12:48 p.m.: With Clark out the game, Iowa's offense has stagnated. Nebraska continues to operate efficiently, with Potts and Markowski proving successful dance partners on the block. They have 12 and eight points, respectively, as well as 15 combined rebounds.

12:44 p.m.: Dominant showing on the glass by Nebraska. Potts reeled in another errant Markowski effort to push the Huskers' lead to seven.

12:41 p.m.: But the Huskers answer back! Logan Nissley rattles one in from deep after corralling Kendall Coley's pass off a live-ball turnover.

12:39 p.m.: Clark powers through the lane for two more. Perhaps that can be the spark she needed to get her scoring up.

12:37 p.m.: Clark has been more distributor in this one. She's got two points on 1-of-9 shooting today. But she does have six assists thus far. You've got to imagine that Lisa Bluder is happy the game is so close with Clark struggling from the field like she is.

12:34 p.m.: What a scoop and score by Callin Hake! Absorbed the contact before finishing with a sumptuous right-handed flick.

End of first quarter: Nebraska 23, Iowa 17

12:26 p.m: Markowski is a problem in the paint. She's already amassed three offensive boards in this one. Couple that with a refined post game — Markowski just flicked a right-handed hook into the net — and it's clear that Nebraska's double-double machine could be a thorn in Iowa's championship hopes.

12:23 p.m.: It's been a slow start for Clark, who found the target for the first time in seven attempts after blowing beyond Markowski for a layup. Hawkeyes desperately need her to find her rhythm if they have any chance of hoisting hardware today.

12:21 p.m.: Shelley flares behind a screen, fires from three and hits. She's starting to percolate as the Huskers make their presence felt. They have a double-digit lead.

Nebraska 13, Iowa 5 (4:43 left in Q1)

12:16 p.m.: Nebraska answered back with a vengeance. Clark is 0-of-5 to start today's contest, felled by the Cornhuskers' relentless pursuit on closeouts. Meanwhile, Markowski and Jaz Shelley have whetted the nylon to pace Nebraska, who leads 13-5 as we strut towards the end of Q1.

12:12 p.m.: The supporting cast are showing out to start this one for Iowa! Gabby Marshall and Sydney Affolter open the scoring for the Hawkeyes as they race out to a 5-4 lead.

12:05 p.m.: The ball is tipped and we're off. Clark and the Hawkeyes! Alexis Markowski and the Cornhuskers! For a shot at the Big Ten belt. What can be better than that?

11 a.m. — The Hawkeyes are in the building. They came in and were greeted by a swarm of fans who lined up to high-five Caitlin Clark, Lisa Blueder and the rest of the team as they seek another Big Ten title win.

10:10 a.m. — Iowa is preparing to face Nebraska in the Big Ten championship. The Hawkeyes released a hype video to pump their fans up before the game.
