It turns out Caitlin Clark is human, after all.
Fans lined up in droves to see Clark face Indiana on Thursday night, and in the end, the crowd at Assembly Hall was a difference-maker as Iowa suffered its largest loss of the season. The Hoosiers pulled away in the second half, cruising to an 86-69 victory over the Hawkeyes.
While Clark filled the stat sheet with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists, it certainly wasn't the game she was hoping for as she pursues Pete Maravich's NCAA scoring record. The senior shot just 8-of-26 from the field, her most inefficient game since November, and that figure includes a 3-of-16 mark from 3-point range.
Clark did a nice job of getting to the basket early on, but Indiana adjusted and held her to just 11 points over the final three quarters. Forced to shoot from long-range with Iowa trailing, the threes simply did not fall for Clark as Iowa struggled to wrestle momentum away from the Hoosiers in a raucous environment.
Indiana's defense had a terrific night all-around, as Iowa shot 38.8 percent as a team, but the Hoosiers' offense also impressed with 25 points from Sara Scalia and 24 from Mackenzie Holmes.
Scoring 24 points might be a great night for any other player, but for Clark, it represents her second-lowest scoring output of the season. It was still enough to bring her closer to Maravich's record, as she now trails by 75 points with three regular-season games remaining and the Big Ten Tournament to follow.
