Avery Johnson is reportedly on his way out at Alabama.

The university is negotiating with its men's basketball coach on a contract buyout, AL.com reported late Thursday. It was not clear how close the sides are to an agreement.

Johnson made just over $3 million this season, according to AL.com, and is signed through 2023 after receiving a two-year contract extension in 2017.

DISMISSED: Phil Martelli | Mike Dunleavy | Billy Kennedy

Johnson and athletic director Greg Byrne met Saturday; Johnson told reporters afterward that he wanted to remain with the program.

The Crimson Tide finished 18-16 (8-10 SEC) in 2018-19. They were eliminated in the first round of the NIT by visiting Norfolk State.

Johnson, who will turn 54 on Monday, is 75-62 in four seasons in charge of the Tide, AL.com noted. He has led the program to one NCAA Tournament berth, in 2018.

Alabama is Johnson's first college coaching job. He coached in the NBA with the Mavericks and Nets and did extensive television work prior to coming to Tuscaloosa.
