Austin Nichols has been dismissed from the Virginia basketball team, according to a release from the school. He played just one game with the Cavaliers.

The redshirt junior power forward was already suspended for the Cavaliers' two preseason scrimmages, and the season-opener at UNC Greensboro on Nov. 11.

The school gave no specific reason given pertaining to Nichols' release.

“It’s a privilege to be a part of this program and Austin has lost that privilege,” Virginia coach Tony Bennett said in the release. “We have standards for our student-athletes and when those standards aren’t met, there are consequences and this is the unfortunate consequence.”

Nichols redshirted last season after transferring from Memphis. The 6-9, 232-pound bruiser was supposed to make a profound impact on the team this season. He scored 11 points and three rebounds against St. Francis Brooklyn on Nov. 15 — his only game of the season.
