The top two teams in the SEC face off Wednesday between the Auburn Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Auburn is undefeated in conference play heading into this matchup after winning their past five games and riding an 11-game winning streak. Alabama, meanwhile, fell to Tennessee this past weekend in a 20-point blowout but remain 4-1 in the SEC and tied with the Volunteers and Kentucky for second in the conference behind Auburn.

Johnie Broome continues to lead the charge for the Tigers after tallying at 46 points and 24 rebounds in the past three games. He averages 15.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Fellow forward Jaylin Williams chips in with 12.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while guard Aden Holloway scores 10. points per game.

The Crimson Tide are spearheaded by their senior backcourt of Mark Spears and Aaron Estrada. Spears averages a team-high 19.8 points per game with 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists, while Estrada averages 13.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

Auburn and Alabama are a lot closer than their records show when KenPom advanced analytics are taken into consideration. The Tigers rank fifth while the Crimson Tide rank eighth among all college basketball teams so far this season. Alabama, though, ranks first in Adjusted Offensive Efficiency, while Auburn ranks ninth.

The biggest discrepancy is on defense, where Auburn ranks sixth and Alabama falls all the way to 64th. That's likely because while the Crimson Tide score almost 90 points per game, they give up 74.9 on defense – which ranks in the bottom-99 in all of college basketball. Alabama gave up 85 points or more in all six of their losses this season.

Auburn is a bit more balanced, with the 21st-ranked scoring offense at 83.7 points per game and the 41st-ranked defense at 65.3 points allowed per game. The Tigers have only given up more than their average seven times and gone 7-1 during those contests.
