LeBron James and the Lakers will look to improve their position in the playoffs when they play the Pelicans in the NBA's regular-season finale on Sunday in New Orleans.

New Orleans can wrap up the No. 6 seed if it beats the Lakers and the Timberwolves beat the Suns.

Los Angeles has already clinched the Western Conference play-in round of the postseason, but is still looking to improve its position.

If the Lakers beat New Orleans, they will clinch the No. 8 seed in the play-in tournament and get two chances to win one game. No. 9 Sacramento and No. 10 Golden State are just a game behind Los Angeles.

Last season, the Lakers qualified for play-in game and then beat second-seeded Grizzlies and Warriors to advance the Western Conference finals, where they were swept by eventual NBA champion Denver.

New Orleans finished its 2023-24 road schedule with a franchise-record 28 wins, which was also the best mark in the NBA. The Pelicans boosted their playoff positioning by beating Golden State 114-109 on Friday night. CJ McCollum scored 28 points and Zion Williamson had 26 points for New Orleans.
