UConn Huskies center Donovan Clingan has received some of the most buzz ahead of the upcoming NBA Draft.
Numerous teams have shown reported interest in trading up for Clingan, including the Chicago Bulls and Memphis Grizzlies. It's hard to imagine a world where the Huskie falls outside of the top-5 selection, but that's exactly what The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor projects. O'Connor believes Clingan will land at No. 7 for the Portland Trail Blazers.
"The Blazers already have Deandre Ayton at center, but what’s stopping them from trying to build a massive frontcourt? Ayton is capable of offering some perimeter defense, and Clingan, with his Rudy Gobert–esque dimensions, has the upside to be an elite rim protector," O'Connor wrote. "If Ayton or Clingan can successfully add a 3 to their repertoire, then the Blazers would have versatile offense and immense size on defense in their frontcourt."
There's no denying Clingan would be the dream selection for the Blazers, considering the depth in the backcourt. He would match the timelines of guards Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe to near perfection while adding a much-needed interior presence on defense.
