Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is not hesitating to share his opinions on the NBA in recent days, harsh or not.
It’s no secret there’s a serious rivalry between the Sixers and reigning champion Boston Celtics, making them the latest on Embiid’s list.
"I tell him the same thing [in reference to the Celtics being a superteam]. If I go 5–20, we get blown out," Embiid said on The Check Ball Show.
‘Superteam’ is the most common word to describe this era of the Celtics, who have five All-Star-caliber players. Superstar forward Jayson Tatum came up short of a ring for years with a strong roster around him, leading to constant criticism. He silenced the noise to an extent last season, although teammate Jaylen Brown won the NBA Finals MVP award. Still, Tatum played a crucial role in the title run.
Fans are in near-consensus agreement with Embiid, excluding the piece about the Sixers losing with poor efficiency. While he’s not wrong and it was surely not intended to throw a bit of shade at his team, the joke is leaving the media a bit lost.
