The power forward is the least secure position in the Philadelphia 76ers starting lineup.
And now more so than ever.
The Sixers had their NBA preseason opener on Monday night against the New Zealand Breakers, where 2024 Paris Olympics standout Guerschon Yabusele indeed stood out. He finished the game with 15 points on a perfect 6 of 6 shooting from the field and nailed his lone 3-point attempt. Yabusele also contributed two assists and a steal in his 16 minutes of action.
It's worth noting the Breakers did not give the Sixers much competition with a final score of 139-84. However, Yabusele's performance will surely make a positive impression on coach Nick Nurse. The 28-year-old has a long way to go before surging into the starting five, as Kelly Oubre Jr. and Caleb Martin started in the forward room over him.
Still, it seems the French big man can carve out a sizable role in a smaller frontcourt. At 6-foot-8, 260 pounds, Yabusele found the majority of his production playing bully ball in the paint. It's only a matter of days before Sixers fans see if he is able to keep up the same style against NBA competition.
Philadelphia takes on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, followed by matchups against the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, and finishing out the preseason against the Orlando Magic.
