The Philadelphia 76ers are in the market for a third star, and a deal could take place sooner than expected.
Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George is the most heavily rumored target, with a reported NBA Draft day trade in the cards. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey recently reported the Sixers could move their first-round pick and forward Tobias Harris in exchange for George.
“The Sixers could include the No. 16 pick and consider even adding Tobias Harris via a sign-and-trade as part of a package. L.A. has some level of interest in Harris," Pompey wrote. "And if George opts to become a free agent, don’t rule out Philly going after him.”
The 76ers’ front office, more specifically Daryl Morey, had a falling out with George’s teammate James Harden, but it doesn’t seem to affect the situation. A concerning factor for Philadelphia is George went on record sharing his goal for the rest of his career is playing the right brand of basketball rather than winning a title. Their time to compete with former MVP Joel Embiid is ticking, meaning their lone priority is bringing in playoff-ready pieces.
Time will tell if Morey and the front office believe George fits the description.
