The Philadelphia 76ers are losing another rotational piece, Buddy Hield, to the Golden State Warriors via sign-and-trade.
As one of the league's premier 3-point shooters, Hield shot 38.6% on 6.8 attempts per game last season. The Warriors found their replacement for guard Klay Thompson in a matter of days, but does this move leave the Sixers with a serious void to fill?
Philadelphia's front office was likely expecting Hield to move elsewhere this summer, leaving them to fill the hole before it was even created. Their first step came in the NBA Draft, where they selected former Duke Blue Devil Jared McCain with the No. 16 pick. Not only is McCain full of life off-the-court, but he can also excite fans through his shooting from the arc. He averaged 14.3 points on 41.4% shooting from 3-point range in 5.8 attempts in his freshman campaign at Duke.
Their next acquisition came in free agency by bringing on veteran Eric Gordon for a minimum deal. Gordon declined his player option to remain with the Phoenix Suns for the 2025 season in favor of signing with Philadelphia. Another threat from 3-point range, the 35-year-old knocked down 37.8% of his shots from the arc last season while averaging 11 points.
While neither McCain nor Gordon stack up to Hield's level at this moment, it's safe to say their shooting department will remain in good standing.
