It's hard to imagine Ben Simmons having a serious future with the Brooklyn Nets barring a return to All-Star form.
The former Philadelphia 76ers guard dealt with major health issues over the past two seasons, but the Nets are seemingly optimistic his trade value can return to what it once was. NBA reporter Bob Windrem shared on The Brooklyn Pod that the Nets' front office is reportedly seeking a 'good deal' for the 28-year-old at February's deadline.
"If he suddenly becomes 15-5-and-5, maybe it works, and the other thing is that even if he does 15-5-and-5, the number of teams that are going to be competing for him is going to be small because of those two back surgeries," Windrem said. "The more likely scenario that everyone believes is they'll wait for the trade deadline and try to get a good deal."
Simmons' market is depleted regardless of his health, largely due to the poor relationship created with Philadelphia's front office. Few teams around the league are willing to take that risk unless they're confident his talent outweighs the potential locker room drama.
A California destination is plausible, considering both the LA Lakers and Clippers are always hunting big names. A void is opened in the Clippers forward room with Paul George joining the Sixers while the Lakers never shy away from the chance to pair an established guard alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
