It's no secret the Milwaukee Bucks are shopping their center room of Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis, and it seems the Philadelphia 76ers are potential buyers.
With backup big man Mo Bamba signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, it leaves the Sixers with Paul Reed and Andre Drummond to support former MVP Joel Embiid. Reed is a heavily speculated trade candidate, leaving Philadelphia with an even greater void to fill at power forward.
Portis, at 6-foot-10, could easily make the transition to playing the four in Philadelphia. He averaged 13.8 points and 7.4 rebounds on 50.8% shooting from the field and 40.7% from 3-point range last season, landing him third in Sixth Man of the Year voting. The 2021 NBA champion has held consistent averages over the majority of his career while appearing in more than 70 games in each of the last three seasons.
Drummond and Embiid are two of the most dominant rebounders in the league, but tend to deal with injuries more often than not. Adding Portis to the rotation could remove much stress for the Sixers, especially in the regular season when Embiid misses games.
It would come at a bit of a steep price to pry Portis away from Milwaukee, but a combination of Reed and draft capital may get the job done. Not to mention, Portis has a player option next summer, so it's in the Bucks' best interest to find a solid return for him before walking for nothing.
