There's a new addition to Golden State's youth movement.

In the team's 109-98 win over the Nets on Feb. 5, 2024, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr closed the game with five-time All-Star Klay Thompson on the bench. In his place was Gui Santos, a 21-year-old rookie who wasn't in the rotation to start the season.

Fellow rookie Brandin Podziemski went as far as saying Santos was the reason the Warriors defeated the Nets.

"Without him, we probably lose, quite honestly," Podziemski said of Santos. "When he came in in the second quarter he gave us some life. Then when he came in the third, you could just feel his energy and his presence both offensively and defensively.

"I think that’s why coach decided to rock with him and finish the game with him.”
