The NBA's hottest new rivalry is back for a second helping in 2023.

The last time the Lakers and Grizzlies played back on January 20 in Los Angeles, both players and famous fans alike cranked up the temperature. NFL Hall of Famer and TV personality Shannon Sharpe got into a shouting match with Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks and even challenged Ja Morant's father, Tee. On the heels of last year's contentious meeting which irked LeBron James, the incident clearly vaulted Lakers vs. Grizzlies to a new level.

Never mind the hotly contested basketball — the Lakers won 122-121 on a late game-winner by Dennis Schroder — this is a matchup you won't want to miss.

The 12th-place Lakers enter with a 29-32 record, one game out of the play-in but just two games back in the loss column from fifth in what's shaping up to be a photo finish in the Western Conference. This is the first game of a back-to-back with both games on the road, the second coming Wednesday in Oklahoma City. After that, the Lakers play 10 of their next 12 games at home with only one back-to-back, giving them an opportunity to climb back into playoff position. They have the 5th-easiest remaining schedule according to Tankathon.

LeBron James was seen limping in the tunnel after their last game, a win over the Mavericks in which they rallied from 27 points down. His status for Tuesday's game in Memphis is not yet confirmed though he did finish. Sunday's game after appearing to injury his foot. With under four minutes remaining in the third period, James drove on Mavericks center Dwight Powell and missed a layup. He then fell to the ground while holding his foot and was heard saying, "I heard a pop."

if James is unable to go, the Lakers will rely even more on Anthony Davis. The eight-time All-Star dominated Dallas, finishing with 30 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

The Grizzlies enter in 2nd place in the West and are coming off a nice win over the 1st-place Nuggets. They have struggled of late, going just 5-10 over their last 15 games which coincidentally started with the aforementioned loss in Los Angeles. The offense has plummeted during that stretch as they rank just 24th in offensive rating including dead last in 4th quarters. The only team that's been worse overall in 4th quarters since January 20 is the Spurs who are 0-16 since then.

Can Ja Morant shift the Grizzlies back into high gear? Or will they drop another game and inch closer back towards the middle of the pack.
