Warriors owner Joe Lacob wants Draymond Green to retire with the team.
The 29-year-old forward had an inconsistent season for Golden State, especially on the offensive end, but has since bounced back with a strong playoff run. Lacob told The Athletic he always believed in Green.
“He’s Draymond Green,” Lacob said. “I wasn’t worried. I want Draymond Green to be here forever. He’s as Warrior as they come.”
The three-time All-Star tallied 7.4 points per game, his lowest mark since 2013-14. Green, however, has upped that total to 12.6 points through the Warriors first eight playoff matchups.
“All this year I don't think I was in great shape at all,” Green told reporters Tuesday. “Part of it was I wasn't healthy most of the year. Really just locking in and focusing on my body, getting it healthy and ready for this time of year has been important.
“I feel great out there. I think it's showing in my play. But it's a long road for what we want to do. Just got to continue to do the things that I've been doing, continue to try to bring it on the floor.”
Green said he hasn’t “been healthy in a while.”
“It feels good to step out there and not have an ache,” Green said. “Sometimes during the year, like the toe injury, every time you step on that toe, put pressure on it, it's killing me. You kind of dread going on the floor. Feels good to go out there and be healthy and play the game I love with my body feeling good.”
Green inked a five-year, $85 million deal to stay with the Warriors in July 2015. He is eligible to sign another extension next season.
The Warriors topped the Rockets 115-109 on Tuesday to take a 2-0 lead in their second-round series. The teams will face off Saturday in Game 3.
