Warriors coach Steve Kerr believes Andre Iguodala still has a lot left to give as he closes out his 15th NBA season, and Kerr isn't concerned about the veteran's future.
Iguodala will be 36 when his $17.18 million contract expires during the 2020 offseason, however, Kerr thinks Iguodala will be able to play beyond his current contract and into his late-30s. Iguodala has continued to make an impact for Golden State as he's averaged 10.7 points, 4.7 assists and 4.0 rebounds in the postseason.
“I think he can play beyond this contract, if he really wants,” Kerr said, per The Mercury News. “He may not want to. He may just want to go to the golf course and call it a career. But he can keep playing if he wants.”
"The guy is a remarkable athlete, and the combination of his athleticism, his work ethic and his brain is going to allow him to play. ... Not a lot of players who stay relevant deep into their careers, almost all of them have high basketball IQs. He still has his athleticism. It takes him longer to warm up and longer to cool down, but it's still there."
Draymond Green added: “This dude can still jump. It’s pretty crazy. But it’s good for us. It’s one of those things that boosts our energy.”
Iguodala, on the other hand, isn't sure how much longer he wants to play in the league, indicating his NBA days could be limited.
“I’m going to be done soon,” Iguodala said. “I could probably play a legit five more years, but I’ll probably max out at three more after this year — maybe three more.
“But if I’m not here, that will weigh heavily on what I will do. I possibly have another year here — if we win. That’s it. I know that. I’m fine with it.”
Iguodala's NBA career started after he was selected by the 76ers out of the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft. He played eight seasons in Philadelphia before spending one with the Nuggets and six with the Warriors.
