Team USA's most-recent Olympic tune-up can be best described as a little too close for comfort.
The Americans needed a furious second-half comeback and a game-winning bucket from LeBron James to defeat South Sudan, 101-100, on Saturday. South Sudan led by as many as 16 points, and even had a one-point lead late in the fourth quarter before James scored with eight seconds to play.
And yet, Team USA is undefeated through four games on its pre-Olympic showcase, which ends Monday against Germany.
Despite the unblemished record and a deeply-talented roster, there remains work to be done before Paris.
"We have to continue to take a step forward," James said on Saturday. "... Every game, every film session, we get an opportunity. We have to try to make the most of it, not taking any steps back."
Germany, winners of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, will present another challenge.
The start of group play in Paris looms in less than a week, with Team USA beginning its quest for a fifth consecutive gold medal against Serbia on Sunday, July 28.
