Team USA will be part of the men's 3x3 tournament at the Summer Olympics for the first time in program history. Led by former BYU star Jimmer Fredette, the Americans have a good shot at bringing home a medal.
Fredette couldn't believe it when he got the call to join Canyon Barry, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis on the 3x3 squad.
"When I heard 'Olympics,' I was like, 'Yeah, done, let's do it,'" Fredette said. "That's something that you dream about as a kid. I never thought I'd have an opportunity to play in the Olympics."
Fredette, Barry, Maddox and Travis now have an opportunity to add to Team USA's incredibly legacy at the Summer Games. They are embracing the expectations that come with playing under the USA Basketball banner.
"It's an honor to be able to play and we expect as much from ourselves as people do on the outside, so we expect to do really well," Fredette said. "But that's just the way it is — if you have 'USA' on your chest, they expect you to win."
