Is Tyler Herro playing tonight? Latest updates on Heat guard's injury status ahead of Game 3 vs. Nuggets image

Tyler Herro is closing in on returning to action for the Miami Heat.

The shooting guard has been sidelined since Game 1 of their first-round series against the Milwaukee Bucks on April 16, suffering a broken hand. However, there is optimism he will take the court at some stage during the NBA Finals.

Here is the latest news on Herro's status ahead of Game 3 in Miami on Wednesday night.

Is Tyler Herro playing tonight vs. Nuggets?

While there were reports that Herro could return as early as Game 2 in Denver, it appears his injury comeback is on the back burner for now.

On Tuesday, ahead of Game 3 in Miami, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Herro was considered day-to-day and "has not been cleared yet" to play.

“But we’re encouraged by the work that he has been doing,” Spoelstra added.

After going through a contact workout on Tuesday, Herro was officially ruled out for Game 3.

What is Tyler Herro's injury?

Herro fractured the third and fourth metacarpals in his right hand after diving for a loose ball in Game 1 against the Bucks.

He underwent surgery on April 21, with the Heat announcing he would miss a minimum of six weeks. Friday, June 2 marked exactly six weeks since his surgery.

Herro was the Heat's second-leading scorer in the regular season, averaging 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. With the NBA Finals tied at 1-1, his return to the lineup would be a big boost for the Heat as they look to take control of the series on their home floor.
