After missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season, the Raptors are in full offseason mode.
While offseason activity started slowly, things kick into full motion as the Raptors gear up for the 2024 NBA Draft. With the franchise building for a future around 22-year-old All-Star Scottie Barnes, the draft is a great opportunity to add talented players who fit the developmental timeline.
Here is a snapshot of the Raptors' situation at this year's NBA Draft.

Raptors draft picks 2024: When does Toronto pick?
The Raptors own two picks in the 2024 NBA Draft:
- Round 1, No. 19
- Round 2, No. 31
- Round 2, No. 45*
- Round 2, No. 57*
Despite missing the NBA Playoffs, Toronto will not make a lottery selection after sending the eighth overall pick to San Antonio as part of the 2023 trade for Jakob Poeltl. The Raptors will select 19th and 31st overall.
Toronto acquired the 19th pick from Indiana as part of the Pascal Siakam trade. The 31st pick, which is the first pick of the second round, originally belonged to Detroit.
The Raptors will reportedly acquire the rights to the 45th pick from the Kings and the rights to the 57th pick from the Timberwolves (via Memphis).
In 2023, the Raptors selected guard Gradey Dick with the 13th overall pick. After a slow start to the season, Dick posted averages of 12.5 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 37.1 percent from deep over 26 games after the All-Star break.

Breaking down the Raptors 2024 NBA Draft
Round | Pick | Selection |
1 | 19 | Ja'Kobe Walter |
2 | 31 | Jonathan Mogbo |
2 | 45 | Jamal Shead |
2 | 57 | Ulrich Chomche |
Raptors pick No. 19: Ja'Kobe Walter, Baylor
Toronto adds the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in Walter, who averaged a team-high 14.5 points per game during his lone season at Baylor.
Walter, a 6-4 combo guard, is a skilled shooter and, as evidenced by the numbers, a gifted scorer as well. The Raptors' need for backcourt depth and shooting to space the floor for Barnes led them to Walter, who has plenty of potential and can make an immediate impact as a rookie.
On the defensive end, Walter's athleticism gives him the potential to become a difference-maker at the NBA level. Walter fits the bill of a prototypical Raptors player and he fits the vision that the franchise is looking to build for the future.
Raptors pick No. 31: Jonathan Mogbo, San Francisco
Mogbo is one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft class and lands in Toronto at 31. A 6-8 forward from the University of San Francisco, Mogbo averaged a double-double during his senior year.
As documented by ESPN's Jonathan Givony earlier in the year, Mogbo entered high school as a 5-9 combo guard and sprouted to 6-8. As an under-the-radar player, he began his college career at the junior college level before transferring to Division I Missouri State and later, San Francisco.
Mogbo, 22, is from West Palm Beach, Fla., the same hometown as Barnes. The two have a longstanding relationship that should only add to team chemistry.
Raptors pick No. 45: Jamal Shead, Houston
Shead was one of the best players in college basketball in 2023-24.
A 6-0 guard from Austin, Texas, Shead spent four seasons at the University of Houston. Last season, Shead racked up accolades — in addition to consensus First Team All-America honors, Shead was named Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and National Defensive Player of the Year.
In addition to his defense, Shead averaged 6.3 assists per game. He adds more backcourt depth and has scary potential as a defender.
Raptors pick No. 57: Ulrich Chomche, NBA Academy Africa
As the first-ever NBA Draft pick to come directly from the NBA Academy Africa, Chomche is a historic pick for the Raptors.
Chomche, who will not turn 19 until December, is a 6-10 center from Cameroon. He is a young, raw talent, who has high upside for the Raptors, who are looking to bolster their frontcourt.
