Warriors coach Steve Kerr: Stephen Curry must be ‘smarter’ image

Stephen Curry didn’t have a banner day on the basketball court on Christmas, but it’s not the stats that stick out to most fans that have his coach concerned.

Curry scored 15 points, making just 4 of 11 shots from the field, as the Golden State Warriors blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead and lost 109-108 to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the marquee game on the NBA’s Christmas Day slate.

He also had three turnovers, and it’s the star guard’s failure to take care of the basketball consistently that is giving his coach grief.

"I think he can be a little smarter, I think he can make better decisions, and that'll help against anybody," Kerr said of Curry, per ESPN. “But I'm not worried about him missing shots; I'm more worried about just decision-making and making sure that we're where we need to be as a group."

The Warriors turned the ball over 20 times, which the Cavs converted into 21 points.

Kerr added, “A lot of (the turnovers) early was not even due to the pressure. It was more just decision-making. Around-the-back passes in the paint, silly plays. We just have to make simple plays, and we talk about that all the time, but we've got to make it more of a habit."

While that remark addressed his entire team, it was clear Kerr was talking more specifically about Curry,

Kerr also didn’t demonstrate much confidence in Curry’s defense, as he took his star out for the Cavs’ final possession of the game, when Kyrie Irving hit the game-winning shot.
