Some thought Warriors guard Stephen Curry would play Saturday in Game 3 of the team's Western Conference second-round series.

On Friday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced Curry will not play, via the The Dan Patrick Show.

“If he’s ready to play he can play,” Kerr told Patrick. “That’s based on what the trainers tell me and what we see with our own eyes in practice, and he hasn’t practiced with us yet. So, Game 3 tomorrow, he’s not going to play.

”He’s getting better every day, but until he’s out on the floor with our team and scrimmaging and we’re seeing him move, and the trainers say it’s a go, we’ll just keep doing what we’re doing. But no way tomorrow, and I would say maybe a slight chance on (for Game 4) Monday if he gets great work in the next few days.”

Curry returned from an ankle injury only to sprain his right knee on April 24 in Game 4 of Golden State's first-round series against the Rockets.

Curry hasn't practiced since, but the Warriors have a four-day layoff between Games 2 and 3 against the Blazers. Curry was hopeful he would be able to play, but following a pair of wins over Portland, Kerr doesn't want to risk further injury.

"Everything has gone very smoothly. He hasn't had any setbacks,'' Kerr said Thursday, via ESPN.com. "He's ramping up things in the weight room.

"We probably need to get through that process. We need to see him in rhythm, cutting, moving and see how he responds the next day as well.''
